DARKO KARAJIC graduated from the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of Prof.
Istvan Remer. With his predilection for playing in chambre ensembles, as a member
of ensembles “Musica Antiqua”, “Ars Nova”, “Renaissance”, and “Studio for Early Music”,
he performed all over ex-Yugoslavia, at mojor music events and at many festivals:
BEMUS, BELEF, NOMUS, Ohrid Summer Festival, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Musical Soirées
in Donat (Zadar), Varazdin Baroque Soirées, in Italy, Germany, France, Hungary, Spain,
and Greece. He participated in various music projects, stylistically diverse, encompassing
ethno, medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque as well as film music (a total of 11 discography
issues). He also gave a series of concerts titled “Music for Two Lutes” in collaboration
with his former pupil Andrej Jovanic. He participated in selecting compositions for
lute for the curriculum for early music department in elementary and middle music
schools. He is a professor of guitar at “Josip Slavenski” music school. In his class
14 students graduated, 10 of which continued their studies at the Faculty of Music
in Belgrade. His pupil Andrej Jovanic continued his studies in London. At various
festivals and competitions pupils from the class of Darko Karajic won 46 prizes.
He is cultivating beehives and is achieving notable results with them. He is a great
expert in the process of plum brandy making and also the keeper of family tradition
(his grandma was a well-known manufacturer of plum brandy).
